Gloomy, compact and with plenty of fantasy charm: even when you first unpack it, The Dark Tower looks like a small, sinister highlight for your shelf. Despite its modest size, there is something special about this set – it exudes an atmosphere as if a wizard were about to appear from somewhere. For around €30, you get a solid package, including lighting that really brings the model to life.
The construction is fun, even if you need a little dexterity here and there. Some construction stages are quite tightly calculated, which means that some areas fit quite tightly – i.e. very tightly – and should not be moved much after completion. Nevertheless, the construction remains varied, comprehensible and provides real crafting pleasure.
Visually, the tower impresses with its harmonious proportions and clear, vertical silhouette. I particularly like the lighting: it perfectly highlights the windows, openings and details and gives the dark structure a beautiful depth. In the semi-darkness, the set appears almost mystical – and much larger than it actually is.
Pros: very good value for money, harmonious design, lighting adds real value.
Neutral: somewhat challenging for beginners due to tight tolerances.
Cons: some components fit too tightly – best not to touch them after assembly.
Conclusion: F-A0649 is a small but fine eye-catcher for anyone who likes dark fantasy models. Despite a few tight fits, the fun of building clearly outweighs this – especially when the lighting is switched on.
For the price, you get a lot of atmosphere and a dose of magic in miniature format.
Note: The manufacturer has not been clearly confirmed – hence the ‘(?)’ in the title.
